UC
Students Present Three Business District Plans
 Students
from the UC DAAP program presented three alternative plans
for the College Hill Business District on Monday this
week. The reception by community members was positive and
engendered spirited discussion.
The students will return on Monday, March 16, with a
single plan that takes into account the feedback they
received. That meeting will be from 2 to 4:30 pm at
the Llanfair Retirement Community Campus Center. Everyone
with a stake in College Hill is invited to attend.
See previous
eNewsletter article for more on this program.

| Falcons
on a Roll
The
Aiken Falcons boys' basketball team beat the St. X Bombers
68-65 this week, bringing their record to 12-7.
Friday (tonight) is the Falcon's last regular season game.
It'll be at home, vs. West High. This is also Senior Night,
so it'll be a great time to come out and cheer before the
team goes to tournaments.
Speaking of tournaments, the girls' basketball team won
their first tournament game Monday, beating Clearmont NE
48-45. They'll play the winner of the Taft vs. McNicholas
game on February 24th at Withrow. We need a Sea of Purple
next Tuesday for the game!
Buy your tournament tickets at Aiken for only $5; they'll be
$7 at the door.

College
Hill Community Pot Luck Returns with History Presentation
A special presentation by the College Hill Historical
Society is featured at the annual College Hill Community
Pot Luck on Friday, February 27, at the College Hill
Presbyterian Church from 5 to 8 pm.
Join friends and neighbors for a night of food, fun and
friendship--and bring a dish to share. Last names beginning
with A-H bring salad or side dish; J-R, main course or
casserole; S-Z, dessert.
The College Hill Historical Society presentation of the
Strobridge Lithograph of College Hill in 1865 is an
illustrated discussion life in those times, and, among other
things, shows how much from earlier times still exists
in College Hill today. This impressive presentation is
full of facts never before discussed and even has a ghost
story. The presentation begins at 6:30 pm.
For more information, please call 513-542-7263.
Presented by The College
Hill Forum.

Another
College Hill Business to Support in the CityBeat "Best
of Cincinnati" Election
Last week, we listed several College Hill businesses that
you might want to help include in CityBeat's
"Best of Cincinnati 2009" list (see here
for the article that includes the list).
Steve Schmitz writes to encourage us to vote for Linda's
Luxuries under "Urban Life" in the "Favorite
Findlay Market Vendor" category. Linda Ipp makes
vegetable based all natural soap their College Hill
home. Go ahead and write them in if they're not
listed.
Go here
to vote. Read the instructions carefully--they've made a few
changes since last year. You have until the end of February
to vote.
We're sure that we haven't listed all items of interest to
our readers. Tell
us what we've missed and we'll tell our 1000+ readers
about them in our next issue.

Hill Gardeners to Host Open House
Intrigued by rain gardens? Want to find out where in
your home landscape one of any size might be installed
easily? Is this a "green-gardening" concept
something you can do?
Leslie Cohen of Mill Creek Watershed Council will speak
about rain gardens during the College Hill Gardeners'
spring open house at 7 pm Tuesday, March 3 in the Campus
Center at Llanfair Retirement Community.
In addition to hearing the talk about rain gardens and
viewing rain barrels available for order, attendees can
also learn about the gardening group's projects and
events, which include Aiken High School greenhouse growing
workshops from March through May; a May 2 plant sale; and
the Gardens of College Hill tour on June 20.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments and
door prizes will be offered.

St.
Clare Parish College Hill Celebrating 100 Years
College
Hill's St.
Clare Parish held the first Mass on October 3, 1909 in
Town Hall.
St. Clare's will celebrate this centennial with events such
as speakers, a golf outing, picnics and special displays
throughout 2009.
A DVD "100 years in 15 minutes" highlighting
special occasions, events and groups at St. Clare will be
available in March.
The centennial will be topped off on October 4 with a
procession from Town Hall to St. Clare Church, ending with a
celebration of the Mass--just as in 1910 after a temporary
church was built on Cedar Avenue.
A history book containing about 60 pages of historical
information and pictures will be available in December,
which will include the 2009 events.

History at CHPC
- What immortal song did Stephen Foster compose while
living in Cincinnati?
- Why was Thomas Edison so terrified in Cincinnati on
the night Lincoln was shot?
- Did the The Nation's Station first broadcast from
College Hill?
- Which CHPC member patented "the uniform potato
chip" which now sells the world over?
Find
the answers to these questions and many more when Rick
Kennedy presents "Everything You Need To Know About
Cincinnati, an offbeat history of the Queen City" at a
February 23, 6:15 pm, potluck-style dinner at the College
Hill Presbyterian Church. The program will start about 7 pm.
Make your reservations by calling Nancy Rice at
513-541-4434.
A former Cincinnati Post reporter, Kennedy has managed media
relations for GE Aviation for the past 20 years. In his
role, he hosts reporters from around the globe, and loves to
teach them why Cincinnatiʼs history of innovation has
had a lasting impact on our lives.
Following Mr. Kennedy's presentation, Voice of Truth, a
group composed of teens from all over the city will
entertain. Their choice of music combines Kirk
Franklin-style gospel and contemporary Christian with a few
show tunes thrown in for good measure.

Us Update the College Hill Churches Page
We didn't know how many churches there are serving College
Hill until we put together the College
Hill Churches page on the College Hill portal site a
while back. There are 28, most of them within the boundaries
of our neighborhood.
We'd like to make sure the listings are correct. If you are
a member of a church serving College Hill, please look up
your listing on the Churches
page. If you see changes or additions that should be
made, please inform Ken
Lyon.

The eNewsletter is published every week or so by
the volunteers listed below. Our purpose is to help make
College Hill an even better place to live, play and do
business by publishing a broad spectrum of news for and
about College Hill, with an emphasis on stories of College
Hill people working together to improve our community.
The eNewsletter
is independently prepared and published by neighborhood
volunteers. It is not affiliated with the College
Hill Forum Community Council.
Opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of
any College Hill or other organization--or even of the

endorsement. The fact that something isn't in the eNewsletter
is not necessarily a lack of endorsement--it's most likely
because no one told us about it.
eNewsletter photos are often edited to remove
