Dear Reader,
Lately, your eNewsletter has been a
co-production of two editors. Gail collects and edits copy and
pictures, adds some of her own, and then sends the content to
Ken, who does the formatting.
Producing this week's issue was particularly interesting
because Ken is in Michigan. But no matter, the
near-miracle of modern technology makes getting the news of
College Hill to you almost as easy as if he were at home. Ken
does find his laptop screen a little claustrophobic, compared
to the dual 20" wide screen monitors on his desk at
home.

| Aiken C&C Inducts Ten into National Honor

Aiken College
and Career High School has inducted ten students into
the National Honor
Society. NHS chair Sandra Watson says they are: Sarah
Austin, Rebecca Davidson, Philip Gibert, Vasean Graves,
Cameron Tye, Angela Abney, Harod Douglas, Charyce McCants,
Melissa Commodore and Kenisha Myles.
All were honored at an April 24 ceremony featuring Capt.
Cedric Robinson of Cincinnati Fire Department Co. #8 as guest
speaker.
Congratulations all!
Thanks to Aiken College and Career High School for
this story. |
| Dottie Engle Goes Punk?
 Mild-mannered
College Hill resident Dottie Engle is sporting a new look
these days--but don't worry, it won't last long. The blue hair
isn't a fashion statement, it's a "badge of honor" for helping
to raise more than $1,000 for a cancer hospital in El
Salvador.
Dottie, Associate Professor of Biology at Xavier
University, won a fundraising contest between the university's
biology and chemistry departments, and the one-week bragging
rights (if you consider blue hair bragging).
Thanks to the College Hill Presbyterian Church for
this story. |
| Girl Scouts Hold Art Auction
 Members
of a College Hill Girl Scout troop learned about recycling and
the rarified world of art auctions at the same time. The girls
and leaders made art from discarded objects, then sold it at a
live auction (complete with bid paddles) last month in the
basement of St. Clare Church.
They raised $130 for the Girl Scout's annual charity, as
well as collecting food for the Freestore and toiletries for
the Drop Inn Center.
Heather, a sixth grader, is pictured with the lamp shade
she made from packing crates. It was the auction's top seller,
at $5,000 in play money. |
College
Hill Man Gives Advice on Living to 100
Marion Brandt, a 101-year-old College Hill resident
(shown here at one of his weekly golf games), has no plans to
slow down. The retired P&G executive is an inventor, he
works out four times a week, and plays in a kazoo band.
The Enquirer recently profiled him in a story on
how to live to be 100. Read it here. |
| McAuley Seniors Win Cheviot Bank
Scholarship
Four McAuley School seniors, including College Hill
resident Katie Weyer, have won college scholarships from the
Cheviot Savings Bank Charitable Foundation. The $1,000
scholarships are given to deserving students within the
community.

Katie's scholarship was for character. The daughter Mike
and Anne Weyer, she plans to study speech therapy at Ohio
University. She is pictured third from the left beside Nicole
Oehler of White Oak (service), Ashley Frondorf of White
Oak (excellence in business technology) and Emy Benson of
Northside (leadership).
Thanks to McAuley High School for this
story. |
| Crosley Car at Historical Society Meeting

Everyone who attended the last College Hill Historical
Society Meeting, and any Twin Towers residents who happened to
be passing by, got a special treat--a chance to sit in a real
Crosley car.
Michael Banks, co-author of "Crosley: Two Brothers and a
Business Empire That Transformed the Nation," gave a wonderful
talk and brought a friend who owned a genuine Crosley car. All
the inside knowledge about the brothers and their inventions,
along with special memorabilia from the author's collection,
made for a very interesting afternoon.
Michael's next project is a book about Ruth Lyons (CHHS
members got a sneak peek at the manuscript).
The Historical Society will definitely be inviting
Michael back to speak at another meeting-don't miss it!

| Coffee Co. to be in Upcoming Tupelo Honey Music Video
 In case you missed it,
recording artist and CEA music award winners Tupelo Honey
played a live acoustic set at the Collage Hill Coffee Co.
April 26. The house was packed with great food, coffee and the
beautiful harmony of Heather and Katie, whose original songs
have captured the hearts of everyone from the hard core rocker
to the easy listener.
Promoter Michael Baker of Fade to Gray Films and Lana
Read of Garnet Films filmed the entire event for an upcoming
music video to be premiered sometime in May.
"We have to have Tupelo Honey come again very soon,"
owner Tina Stoeberl said. "Their style is perfect for this
kind of venue."

| Life Under the Third Reich
Twin Towers Senior Living Community invites the public to
hear resident Sonja Stratman present "Growing Up Under the
Swastika," a presentation about her childhood in Nazi
Germany.
Born in 1927, Sonja had no idea that the history books in
her school were re-written to favor Hitler. At age 10 she and
her classmates joined the Hitler youth, not understanding the
meaning of their participation.
For most of her adult life, Sonja scarcely spoke of those
days. But in 2004 she began the therapeutic journey of
revisiting the memories of a horrific time in history.
Join Sonja at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, May 14, at the Twin
Towers Chapel, for a one-hour presentation about the
unforgettable events of Germany under Hitler.
For more information contact Holly Henderson at
513-853-2743.
Thanks to Twin Towers for this
story. |

The eNewsletter is published every week or two by
the volunteers listed below. Our purpose is to help make
College Hill an even better place to live, play and do
business by publishing a broad spectrum of news for and about
College Hill, with an emphasis on stories of College Hill
people working together to improve our community.
The eNewsletter is
independently prepared and published by neighborhood
volunteers. It is not affiliated with the College Hill
Forum Community Council.
Opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of any
College Hill or other organization--or even of the editor. The
inclusion of an article is not necessarily an endorsement. The
fact that something isn't in the eNewsletter is not
necessarily a lack of endorsement--it's most likely because no
one told us about it.
eNewsletter photos are often edited to remove
extraneous material.
Send us news that you think would be interesting to your
College Hill neighbors--and we'll very likely publish it.
