Dear Reader,
If you haven't filed your taxes yet, or filed for an
extension, you're late!
I decided not to mention tax day last week after getting
another date wrong, thanks to a newsletter from a city
official who shall remain anonymous. Oh well, I have learned
my lesson and will verify dates and times in the future, no
matter where I get them. If anyone put out leaves and yard
waste a week early because of the eNewsletter, I profusely
apologize.
Don't forget Friday night's free chamber orchestra
concert at the First United Church of Christ (see our calendar
website for more concerts and performances), and if
you're suffering from spring fever, see below for a great new
College Hill hike.
Until next week ... Gail Finke, Co-Editor

| Spring Comes to College Hill

Wow! A look at the Cincinnati School Employees Credit
Union and the gorgeous blooming trees in front of the College
Hill Fundamental Academy remind us that the cold snap will
soon be over and spring has, indeed, arrived.

| Hike the New Kirby Road Trail Saturday
 The
Cincinnati Parks Department will hold a two-mile hike
Saturday over the new Kirby Road Trail in the
Bradford-Felter Tanglewood Preserve.
The 212-acre woods is undeveloped, and the hike will be
"moderately strenuous," according to naturalist Pat
Agnew. "It is still pretty rugged, partly due to the
hilly terrain, partly because it is new and less trampled,"
she says.
The hike will start at 1 pm Saturday at the small
gravel lot on the west side of Kirby Road just south of the
junction with Glenview. It will last approximately two
hours. Dress for the weather and bring a snack.
To register and get detailed information about the
meeting place, call 513-542-2909.

| Clean-Up Day needs Volunteers and TRUCKS!
 Organizers for The Great American
Clean-Up in College Hill are gearing up for the April 26th
event, and they're looking for lots of volunteer hands and
trucks.
Lend a hand for a few hours to help rake leaves,
pick up trash, plant/mulch gardens--or drive your truck around
looking cool as you drop off and pick up supplies all in our
effort to beautify Our Hill.
Meet at 9 am at the lot at Hamilton and Llanfair for your
assignment. This year there's a new project: Traffic will be
detoured from Grey Road so volunteers can work there safely.
T-shirts, gloves and trash bags will be provided.
Breakfast, lunch, drinks and prizes too!
All who come out that morning will be very welcome, but
we urge you to call 513-542-4934 or email roths@nku.edu so we have a better idea of
how many volunteers to expect.

| WAKW Gets New Name
College Hill's Christian radio station has a new
name. WAKW,
formerly "New Life 93.3" is now "Star 93.3, Cincinnati's
Uplifting and Kid Safe Station."
The station "will still play the same music, with the
same message ... but we will now be able to brand ourselves in
the market and increase awareness of who we are," says Kurt
Wallace, program director. According to WAKW's web site,
its vision is: "Challenging listeners to live for
Christ with greater purpose and passion, STAR 93.3 will be the
single most listened to, life changing Christian music radio
station in the country."

| Six OVI Arrests at Checkpoint
 Last month's OVI
(Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated) Checkpoint in College
Hill resulted in 6 arrests for drivers with an average blood
alcohol content nearly double the legal limit.
CPD Captain Daniel Gerard said another 10 arrests (for
wanted persons, suspended driver's licenses, open containers,
etc.), numerous traffic citations, and high visibility in the
neighborhood made the checkpoint a success.
"Both CPD and OSHP look to our College Hill checkpoints
as the model to strive for across the both the City and State,
and enjoy working with the College Hill community." Captain
Gerard said. |
| Twin Towers Helps Eagle Scout
 Colerain High
School senior Jeremy Dunbar had plenty of help for his Eagle
Scout project--improving a hiking trail in Mt. Airy Forest.
What he didn't have was a good way to get his more than 40
helpers and materials to build a bridge to the isolated
spot.
A call to Twin Towers Senior Living Community changed
that. Director of Hospitality Russell Johnson not only got
permission for the team to go through the College Hill
retirement community's land, he came out and helped with
the project himself. "As a parent and leader at
Twin Towers, I felt like this is what we are supposed to do
for the community," he said.
 The scouts spent
a day edging the trail, building dams to slow erosion,
leveling walking paths, and building a 14-foot bridge from
materials donated by Cincinnati Parks.
Jeremy's mother set up a "chuck wagon" at a cul de sac at
the Twin Towers South Ridge Patio homes and fed the troops
with submarine sandwiches.
Sharon Menke contributed to this
story.

The eNewsletter is published every week or two by
the volunteers listed below. Our purpose is to help make
College Hill an even better place to live, play and do
business by publishing a broad spectrum of news for and about
College Hill, with an emphasis on stories of College Hill
people working together to improve our community.
The eNewsletter is
independently prepared and published by neighborhood
volunteers. It is not affiliated with the College Hill
Forum Community Council.
Opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of any
College Hill or other organization--or even of the editor. The
inclusion of an article is not necessarily an endorsement. The
fact that something isn't in the eNewsletter is not
necessarily a lack of endorsement--it's most likely because no
one told us about it.
eNewsletter photos are often edited to remove
extraneous material.
Send us news that you think would be interesting to your
College Hill neighbors--and we'll very likely publish it.
