| Coffee Company Marks First
Anniversary |
|
The College Hill Coffee Company and Casual Gourmet
observes its first anniversary this week--Tuesday
through Sunday. What was a dream and a leap of faith one
year ago has become a success story--a success not only
for its owner but also for the College Hill community.
The new College Hill Coffee Company
opened under Tina Stoeberl's ownership in January 2006
after a whirlwind of remodeling and repainting, cleaning
and organizing, a new menu, new hours, added staff and
new logo. Tina and 40-some neighborhood volunteers took
the place apart and put it back together in nine short
(or rather, very long) days--in time to open the doors
to waiting customers at 6:30 am. January 10.
One of Tina’s goals was to bring live entertainment
back to the community. Now, every Saturday night, the
Coffee Company features live concerts by an eclectic
line-up of singers and musicians. Established stars and
entertainment newcomers have been greeted
enthusiastically. See the article below for information
about the special entertainment lined up for this
Saturday.
Tina also wanted to create a community hub. Today,
the Coffee Company is a busy gathering spot for
breakfasts, lunches, dinners, meetings and parties.
Customers drop by to purchase gifts, to chat their
neighbors and to catch up on neighborhood news. In
keeping with the coffee shop/restaurant’s slogan, "eat,
sip, chat, chill," customers relax and enjoy fresh
homemade specialties and desserts accompanied with a
drink of one of dozens of coffees and teas from around
the world.
Painted trompe l’oeil pillars circle the
espresso-colored room; the copper espresso machine is a
coffee bar focus; a vintage piano draws impromptu
performances and laptoppers use the free Wi-Fi internet
access to catch up on their email or make business
presentations.

Behind the Scenes |

Owner Tina Stoeberl (left above) says that running
her coffee shop is like having with triplets with
colic--holding one on each arm while bouncing the other
on her knee.
Elizabeth Sherwood (center above) says that when she
hears Tina's customers say how warm and inviting and
relaxed everything is, she thinks about the late nights
and the hard work that's gone into creating that
experience for them. She's really glad it's working.

One thing your editor gets a kick out of when he goes
to the Coffee Company Sundays after church is that more
often than not, he's waited on by a bank
Vice-President(Phyllis Slusher, right) or by practicing
attorney and Forum President Elizabeth Sherwood (below).

Coffee Company server Tiffany Stanton (below right)
and trainee Alisha Norman (below, left) were also taking
good care of customers at the Coffee Company this past
Sunday.

Anniversary Week at the Coffee Company
|
|
Celebrated entertainer Tracy Walker makes her premier
performance at the College Hill Coffee Company Saturday,
January 13, at 7:30 pm.
Tracy sings folk, rock,
country, jazz and blues--even reggae. You name it and
Tracy’s probably won a music award for it: Best
Singer/Songwriter and Best Folk Artist by the Cincinnati
Entertainment Awards sponsored by Cincinnati
CityBeat; two CAMMY’s, the Cincinnati Enquirer Pop
Music Awards, for Best Solo Act and Best Folk/Bluegrass
Vocalist; and Best Local Musician in CityBeat’s
Best Of Cincinnati readers’ poll.
Born in England and reared in Yellow Springs, Ohio,
Tracy brings a powerful alto voice and an introspective
and creative heart to her songwriting and her singing.
She’s opened for Joe Cocker, The Indigo Girls, Blessid
Union of Souls and other top names.
Tracy’s own recording label is named
Gallimaufree, which means "hodgepodge"--a word
she uses to describe her variety of musical styles. Her
fans use words like "fabulous," "incredible" and "wow."
Come early, get a good seat, and enjoy a meal or
dessert before the performance starts.
