Jeweler Sandy Schwartz Featured in Enquirer Article

Sandy Schwartz, president of Schwartz Jewelers, one of
College Hill's premier businesses, was featured in a recent
Enquirer article.
The article quotes Sandy, "We are part of people's most
significant moments: engagement, marriage, birth of children,
anniversaries. It's very satisfying to make so many long-term
connections."
It's those long-term connections that keep people coming
back to Schwartz Jewelers from all over the Greater Cincinnati
area.

College Hill: "Twenty Minutes from Everywhere"

Saying that College Hill is "Twenty Minutes from
Everywhere" might be a bit of an exaggeration, but not much.
Your editor used Google Maps to check out some driving times
and found that College Hill is within 20 minutes of a lot of
people who could do business in College Hill and a lot of
places that College Hill people might want to get to. Here are
some examples:

- UC and the hospital complex, 12 minutes
- Downtown (Ball Park, Stadium, Convention Center, etc) 14
minutes

Earth Moves at Children's Hospital College Hill Campus

Wondering what all that earth-moving equipment is doing at
the Children's Hospital College Hill Campus?
A Business Courier article reports that Cincinnati
Children's Hospital Medical Center is expanding its College
Hill campus to add outpatient capacity and free up inpatient
space at its main location.

Sarah Mann shared these pictures of the Church-a- Palooza
concert held on the grounds of First United Church of Christ a
couple of weekends ago. It looks like the folks who attended
had a lot to enjoy.
Of the event, Pastor Dan Weyand-Geise said, "For a first
time event, we were pleased with the turnout. We cleared
nearly $2,000 for the Mission Priority Boards and had more
than 300 in attendance."

Amy Wallace, manager of the newly arrived St. Theresa
Textile Trove, will be doing a solo-show fundraiser at College
Hill Coffee Company on Friday Sept 15 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm to
raise funds for the College Hill Business Association project
to paint murals on empty storefront windows.
Amy, aka Ovenfried Beads, is a one-woman polymer-clay bead
machine. Her one-of-a-kind beads, jewelry and polymer clay and
fabric household decorations have been featured locally at
bead stores, galleries, fundraisers and craft shows. Amy's
affordably-priced art is colorful and covers a wide range of
techniques.

Forum's Quality of Life Team Works to Improve College Hill
|
|
Are you concerned about quality of life issues in College
Hill--issues such as litter, overgrown grass, broken windows,
junk cars or unkempt properties?
Members of the College Hill Quality of Life Team deal with
these issues on the community's behalf every day. The QOL
Team's goal is an active team member on every street in
College Hill. Their motto: "One by one and street by street
... Make a difference!"

Dance Classes Start at CDT |

Jefferson James reports that the Contemporary Dance
Theater's Fall Session of classes for adults and teenagers
begins Monday, September 11 and runs 13 weeks to December 16.

Lodge Hosts Community Breakfast Saturday |
|
Barry Owen tells us that the College Hill-Harry S. Johnson
Masonic Lodge will host a Community Breakfast at the lodge on
North Bend Road on Saturday, September 9. The cost is $5.00
for all you can eat. They'll serve bacon and eggs, ham,
sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, coffee, OJ, etc.
Proceeds benefit the Lodge Pantry that feeds local needy
families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Charles Purdue Performs at the Coffee Company
|
|
Charles Perdue is a resident of College Hill and a drummer
with a traditional African drumming band. Charles plays the
dulcimer, Native American flute, didgeridoo, African drums and
a number of other instruments. He will play, sing and talk
about the rich history of these classic instruments Saturday,
September 9 at 7:30pm at the College Hill Coffee Company.
Quilting is Charles Perdue’s primary business. He also
works with many non-profit organizations in an effort to help
keep the homeless community warm during the winter months. He
is a member of Church of God Hamilton County, a newly
established church.
