More Favorite Things in College Hill

Tina Stoeberl lists two of her very favorite things in College Hill:

  • That pear tree at the west end of Teakwood Avenue. It's so beautiful and it gives me pears to eat on my walks. (You can see those very pears on the cover of the College Hill Cookbook here).
  • The Farm Market of College Hill. Fresh fruits and vegetables. Mmmmm.
A few of Carolyn Royalty's favorite things are:
  • Our close proximity to Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum. They are a little bit of heaven in our own back yard.
  • The close-by Gray Road nurseries; Rahn's, Osterbrock's & Funke's.
  • Beautiful hikes in LaBoiteaux Woods.
  • Wonderful walks while looking at College Hill's diverse and interesting architecture.

Have you got a few favorite things in College Hill that need mentioning? Email the editor.

Greater Cincinnati Pet Health Fair Comes to College Hill
Pet Fair

If you hate to leave your pet at home when you're out having fun, mark your calendars for May 21. For the ninth straight year, the College Hill Pet Clinic on North Bend Road has a gala day planned for pets and their owners.

More than 50 vendors, entertainment, hospital tours, animal demonstrations and complementary food are a few of the attractions. In addition, if you don't have a pet, you can adopt one from the ASPCA Mobile Adoption Van. The Clinic will provide one year of free medical services for any pet adopted that day.

The Fair will be held from noon to 4:00pm. Admission is free.

Recreation Center/Aiken Open House

Don't forget the College Hill Recreation Center and Aiken High School Open House this Thursday, May 11, from 6pm to 8pm.

This is the perfect opportunity to visit and support your neighborhood school. The incoming freshman class will be impressed and motivated by the community's show of support.

You will also experience Chicago Stepping, Senior Line Dancing, Tae Kwon Do and Youth/Teen basketball demonstrations. All of the Recreation Center instructors will be on hand to answer any questions about classes and programs.

Don't worry about a shortage of parking spaces; there will be a free shuttle from the Aiken parking lot to the center.

For more information call Doug Carlisle, College Hill Recreation Center (513-591-3555).

Help Preserve College Hill's History

At one time, College Hill had a very active Historical Society. It has now been inactive for many years. College Hill is rich in history and has a large volume of historic documents. We also have a very old cemetery that is great need of restoration.

If you know anyone who is a history buff and who could chair the Historical Society, please call Marty Weldishofer (513-681-4210). There are a lot of College Hill residents who are willing to help, and they just need someone to coordinate the effort.

Recreation Center Offers Reds Rookie Success League

Doug Carlisle of the Recreation Center reminds us, "Don't forget this summer we are offering the Reds Rookie Success League. This is a free baseball league for the youth of College Hill and Cincinnati." Call the center (513-591-3555) for more information.

Dave Sams and Jen Reid at the Coffee Company
Jen Reid and Dave Sams

Night life is coming back to the Avenue. Saturday nights at the College Hill Coffee Company are becoming a habit for College Hill folks who like good entertainment and interesting conversation over coffee and dessert.

This Saturday, March 13, Dave Sams and Jen Reid are back at the College Hill Coffee Company with their vocal and acoustic guitar music. The music starts at 7:30 pm. Come early for a good seat and dinner.

No cover charge, free lighted parking in back.

Tell the Learning Center Planning Team What You Think

Helen Habbert of College Hill's Community Learning Center Planning team reports that more than 70 surveys have aleady been completed online. These surveys will guide the team as they plan for College Hill's use of our public schools.

There is still time to have your voice be heard, if you complete a survey before May 20.

To hear the Team report on what the surveys told them, come to the Forum meeting at the Recreation Center at 7pm on May 23.
