More about this newsletter...

Dear Reader,

Here's your second issue of College Hill's own eNewsletter, now published under the auspices of the College Hill Forum. If you'd like to share it with friends, see the link at the bottom of the page. If there are things you'd like to read about here, or if you know things that the community wants or needs to know, do let me know.

  • Forum Meets Tuesday
  • The regular monthly meeting of The College Hill Forum--your community's voice at City Hall--is Tuesday, June 28 at 7:00 PM at the Recreation Center on Belmont Avenue. Join a hundred or so of your neighbors to hear and respond to:

    • Discussion and possible vote to support the expansion of the College Hill Urban Renewal District to include the Masonic Eastern Star Home and adjoining Masonic Lodge parcels (to facilitate the inclusion of these properties in the Linden Park Commons Project)
    • An update on the possible purchase and upgrade to Savannah Gardens
    • An update on the 2005 Rhythm Race
    • ...and much, much more.

See the bottom of this eNewsletter for information on how to contact the Forum.

  • Bacall's to Get a New Look
  • Bacall's Restaurant will close on Monday, June 27, and will reopen Tuesday, July 5, with a whole new look. What started out as some repairs to the flooring ended up being a project to redo the entrance, change the color scheme and give the restrooms a complete face lift.

  • College Hill Forum presents the Rhythm Race 5K Sponsored by PNC Bank
  • Rhythm Race

PNC Bank is movin' and groovin' with College Hill as the Title Sponsor for the 2005 Rhythm Race 5K Run/Walk! The Rhythm Race is scheduled for Friday evening, September 16, 2005.

Last year's race was a great success and this year will be even better! We've added a Kids' Fun Run after the 5K race, and the Celebration Party will be a blast. We'll have live music, food and drinks, family fun and activities for kids. Run or walk through some of Cincinnati's most lovely tree-lined streets and enjoy a great party!

Any individual, organization or business can be a Rhythm Race sponsor! Sponsorship levels range from $50 to $2,500--with a variety of great benefits! The College Hill Forum will use all Rhythm Race proceeds for Community Redevelopment. For sponsorship information, contact Elizabeth at 768- 5222 or esherwood@mrj.cc.

Community and church groups, companies and organizations are also invited to participate in the Rhythm Race Pledge Program! Encourage your organization to make a difference in our neighborhood! Contact Beth at 681-8808 or bmclean@cinci.rr.com for more information.

To volunteer for the Rhythm Race, contact Becky at 521-2729 or btossey@zoomtown.com. We have a volunteer position that suits your needs or interest. Students can earn community service hours.

Be a part of the excitement: sponsor, pledge, run, walk, and/or volunteer! Don't miss out on the fun!

  • Collecting Recipes for the College Hill Cookbook
  • The College Hill Forum--your community council--is collecting your favorite recipes for a family-style neighborhood cookbook. These recipes will be compiled over the next few weeks into a beautiful cookbook, suitable for gift-giving. Please submit your favorite recipes and be sure to include any stories, anecdotes or memories associated with your recipe. Ask your family, friends and neighbors to participate, too! Please limit your submissions to 5 per person! Contribute your recipes online at the address given at the end of this article.

We envision a top-quality product--one that we'll want for our own families and to give as gifts for any occasion. This would make a wonderful Christmas, Easter, Mother's/Father's Day or Birthday gift! What better way to welcome a new neighbor to College Hill!

If you have questions or would like to help on this project, please call the Forum office at 542-7263.

  • College Hill Business Association Renews its Mission and Vision.
  • The College Hill Business Association was formed over 50 years ago to provide businesses on "The Avenue" (Hamilton Avenue) a way of meeting each other and working together to make the business district a viable and profitable part of the College Hill community. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing has remained the same--the desire of the CHBA to be an association that promotes and assists economic growth throughout College Hill.

In order to continue to make this happen, we have to make sure that our focus remains consistent with this philosophy. To that end, several members of our organization recently spent several evenings revitalizing our Mission and Vision Statements--short statements that convey the purpose of our association and motivate our work. They hammered out the following Mission and Vision for CHBA:

    • Our Mission: The College Hill Business Association is a partnership of businesses that promotes and assists economic growth throughout College Hill.
    • Our Vision: The College Hill Business Association is an energetic and dynamic organization with a full and active membership.

  • Tom Struthers of the Arts Revival in College Hill (ARCH) points out that there's a calendar of community arts offerings on the ARCH site that readers might find interesting. There's also a place on the site for adding events to the calendar. I've added a link to that page on this eNewsletter's list of links.

In support of this eNewsletter, Tom has added a place for past issues of this eNewsletter as well as a subscription form. Thanks, Tom!
