DISCUSSION:

1.   Special Announcements

(a)  John Copenhaver has resigned from the position of Principal of Pleasant Hill School, and has taken a position as Assistant Principal in another school.   His replacement is Cherese Clark.  There will be a good-bye lunch for John on Friday (July 14).  Treena confirmed that although John has moved, the August Summit meeting can still be held at Pleasant Hill.

(b)  MSD (Metropolitan Sewer District) will be doing sewer work on North Bend, cutting through to Connecticut Ct, which has been having sewer backup problems.   Work will start on July 24, and will last 4-6 months.

 2.   Review of June 2006 Minutes
The minutes for the June meetings were agreed to, with one correction.  They will now be posted by Tom Strothers on the ARCH website.

 3.   Review of Action Items from Previous Meetings

A.  Garden Tour: The electronic version of the Garden Tour poster was sent to Tom S. for posting on the website.

B.   Summit Focus Areas: Valerie prepared additional details for the identified Summit focus areas, and this was covered later in the meeting.

 4.   CHCURC – by Marty Weldishofer

·        Shuler’s restaurant has been demolished, and they are working to remove the foundation and blacktop.

·        A design review has been completed for the new condos, and a Marketing package is eminent.   40% of the condos need to be sold before construction starts.

·        The Eastern Star Masonic property has been sold to the city.

·        Kroger sold the lease on the Hamilton/North Bend property to a real estate investment trust in Boston.   Al Neyer is following up.

·        Business district folders for a marketing packet are nearly completed.

·        Discussions are ongoing with “Give Back Cincinnati” regarding Lilipad, their wi-fi program.   They are starting to discuss the possibility of doing wi-fi in the business district.

·        Progress continues on the business district façade program.

·        Balance of funds have been requested from the city through Cincinnati Neighborhoods Business Districts United (CNBDU) to complete the public space, Llanfair Commons, at Hamilton and Llanfair Avenues.

·        Thanks to everyone who sent in support letters for additional funding for Llanfair Commons.

·        CHCURC has not been able to officially contact City Watchers to cancel the camera contract.   Carol sent a letter, but it was returned.   She also phoned.   However, even if City Watchers cannot be contacted, CHCURC is not making any more payments.   Jim Bodmer volunteered to call Avondale to see if anyone

5.   College Hill Housing Team – by Phyllis Schoenberger

The Housing Team had a great meeting with CHP, a potential housing developer, on Tuesday.   They answered all the team’s questions.   Next step is to tour properties that have been done.

Next week, the team will be talking to a second housing developer, WIN.

The Housing Team hopes to decide on a developer by late July/early August.

 6.   Electronic Portal – by Tom Stothers

The new website/portal is up and running, although they are still doing some development.  During the discussion, the Summit members decided to move Summit minutes from the ARCH website to the new website.   It was also suggested that Tom add a button on the webpage called “Retirement”, to highlight retirement opportunities in the community.

 7.   CPOP/COP/Court Watchers – by Tom Strothers

·        A new graffiti is starting to appear around the city: MESP or MESP!    It is usually in silver paint.   If you see it in College Hill, please contact CPOP.

·        Amos Robinson and Dorothy Harris are currently watching 12+ cases in court and are being very diligent.   Many thanks to them both.

·        Officer Noble handed out the most recent crime report, and discussed some of the individual items in it.  Please read it and contact Off. Noble to ask for followup, such as how to prevent robberies.

·        COP has started a top 10 list for known criminals or troublemakers in College Hill.  COP is working to track their movements and activities.   One of these was recently arrested just after a robbery.   Legally, COP cannot publish this list to the community, but feel free to contact COP to understand more about this initiative.

·        CPD is being successful in getting search warrants based on info from COP/CPOP and to make arrests.   The community cooperation is working well.

·        There is a trend for vacant buildings to have their copper piping removed and stolen.  Please report any suspicious activity to the police.

 8.   CCHMC Update – by Joan Burger

Cincinnati Children’s is expanding the College Hill Campus facility.   About 250 staff will be relocated from other facilities to be located at the College Hill Campus.   This requires construction of 260 additional parking spaces, 13 more offices, as well as additional residential beds and outpatient beds.

9.   Summit Goal Focus Areas – by Valerie Hershberger

Valerie handed out a draft (see Attachment #1) of additional details of what might be included in each of the previously identified Summit Focus Areas.   After discussion, it was decided that each of these should be discussed in depth at future Summit meetings so that actual goals can be developed and actions planned.    It was further decided that this should begin in the Fall, when everyone is back on their regular schedules and more available for Summit meetings.    Ron will include no more than one item per meeting.

 10. Community Events & Announcements – by All

¨      Block Party – The annual Block Party will begin on Aug 1 with the National Night Out, at College Hill Presbyterian Church, 6:00-9:00 pm.   A flyer was handed out.

¨      Historical Society – The previous College Hill Historical Society had faded away, and it being revived.   The first meeting will be on Thursday, July 27, at 6:30 pm at Twin Towers.

¨      Rhythm Race – See the Currents Newsletter for information.

¨      Community Events – See the ARCH website for a full list of community events.

¨      College Hill Presbyterian Church – Rev Wayne Darbonne has accepted a call to a church in Littleton, Colorado, and will be leaving in July.   Rev. Bill Enns has accepted an Interim Pastor job in North Carolina, and will be leaving in August.   A search committee is currently interviewing pastor candidates to replace Rev. Bill Enns, but until a new Pastor can be called, Chappie Chapman has been asked to increase his hours at the church and to handle pastoral care.

Next Summit Meeting: August 10, 2006 @ 8:00 am at Pleasant Hill School.
