DISCUSSION:

1.   Review of December Minutes
The corrected minutes for the December meeting were agreed to, with no further corrections

 2.   Special Announcements

Jim Bodmer announced that a Juvenile Probation Officer will be moving into the neighborhood, and will have an office in the house/building at the front of the CCHMC property.   (This building is currently used by AA.)   This is seen as a very positive step by people in the community, who see the need for young people to have ongoing interactions with their probation officer.

 3.   Review of Action Items from December Meeting

A.  Forward info on “Adopt a Family” programs to Summit members – Done.

B.  Bring copies of latest CH crime report – Done.

C.  Send out proposed Summit webpage to Summit – Done.

D.  Develop the list for 2006 Summit meeting locations – Done.  Updated list is attached.   Only 2 meetings still need locations.

E.   Send out questionnaire to collect suggested focus/goals for 2006 – Done.

4.   College Hill Housing Effort- Phyllis Schoenberger & Ron Cowgill

The door-to-door survey on Cedar is still in progress, with various teams taking specific blocks.  Target is complete in January (weather permitting).   A request has been made to have a table at the Martin Luther King celebration in order to help communicate with residents on Cedar, since finding them at home has been challenging.

5.   Aiken High School Community Support – by Phyllis Schoenberger

·         Aiken Service Learning School will have a community breakfast (by invitation) on Jan 21st.

·         8th graders from Pleasant Hill are coming for a “lock-in” at Aiken University to help them select a high school to attend as they enter 9th grade.   Forum QOL is helping.

·         Forum QOL is working on a way to get the community to “adopt” Aiken  and give strong support.

 6.   Gateway Project Status – by Marty Weldishofer

This project is now waiting for the city’s revision of its preferred contractor list, which is expected to include Architects Plus.  The list revision is in progress, and is expected to be completed by the end of January.

7.   College Hill Public Relations – by Ken Lyon

Ken expressed concern about the many diverse images and communication styles being used to share information and present the face of College Hill to those outside the community.   Ken did an internet search and was particularly surprised at how different the websites are for all the community organizations.   He expressed that he was looking for people to get together with him to form a subcommittee to (a) determine what we want the world to know about College Hill and (b) develop a strategy for using the media to communicate this message.   Tom Haid, Frank McGuire, and Marty Weldishofer, among others, volunteered to work with Ken.

 8.   Summit Webpage – by Ron Cowgill

Ron did not receive any comments on the version he sent out electronically.   Frank indicated that he did have some comments, and said he would follow up with Ron after the meeting.

 9.   CPOP Update – by Tom Strothers

·         As indicated earlier in the meeting, a Juvenile Probation Officer will be moving into College Hill.   They hope to have an Adult Probation Office move in as well, and are working on this.

·         They are also analyzing the different types of crimes that occur in the neighborhood.   Burglaries have slightly increased and they are looking for a geographic pattern.

 10. Community Events

·         A Community Potluck Dinner will be held again this year, on Friday, Feb 24, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, at College Hill Presbyterian Church in Fellowship Hall.  The organizers are asking that attendees also bring something for the students at Aiken (from the list of needs previously published).

·         The Martin Luther King event will be January 15 at St. Clare.  Everyone should meet at 5:30 pm at House of Joy and then walk to St. Clare.

 11. Summit Focus & Goals for 2006 – Ron passed out a one-page document with 3 questions for each organization to do as prework for the next Summit meeting.

 12. Announcements

o       The College Hill Gardeners won second place in awards from the National Keep America Beautiful organization.

o       The CHCURC Annual Dinner will be Tuesday, February 7, at Twin Towers.   RSVP is required by Jan 31 for anyone planning to attend.

o       CCCH is searching for a new Pastor/Administrator, and it is going well.   There’s a good chance they may have a new person by Feb 1.   Nathl is working part-time for a few months until the transition is complete.

o       WIN is hosting Home Buyers classes in May.

o       Children’s is doing a blood drive on Jan 30.

o       Saturday morning, Jan 14, all are invited to help demolish and clean up a collapsed garage.   A family on Homeside St. had their garage collapse  and CPOP is sponsoring volunteers to help the family demolish it and clean the site.   A dumpster has been donated.   Volunteers should bring safety glasses, heavy gloves, and heavy shoes.

o       Merle indicated that he would be happy to put flyers at the bank (National City) for non-profit events and organizations.

o       Send news and pictures to Ken for the e-newsletter.   The ARCH website has an archive of past e-newsletters.

o       Ramon and Randy Norris are looking a location for a flooring store.   They are looking seriously at Cedar and Hamilton.   Their parents had a house on Cedar since 1966, and they grew up in the College Hill community.
