3.   Review of July 2006 Minutes
The minutes for the July meetings were agreed to.  They will now be posted by Tom Strothers on the website.

4.   Review of Action Items from Previous Meetings

Summit Focus Areas: There was a question regarding the purpose of the discussions in Summit on various topics.   It was clarified and agreed that these are not policy statements, nor community goals, since Summit is not an organization.   The intention is for Summit members to understand these areas more deeply and to seek ways for the various organizations represented in Summit to assist in making progress.

5.   CHCURC – by Marty Weldishofer

(A) Linden Park

·        The Linden Park Committee met at Al Neyer, Inc on July 11 for a design review.  A new site plan was reviewed.

·        Neyer has selected Gary Voltz, Director of Interior Design PDT Architects to choose the interior finishes for the condos and lobby.  Finishes will be very nice, including items like hardwood floors and granite countertops.

·        The overall financial package is being worked.   Neyer is waiting on some decisions by the US Treasury Dept which will influence whether or not some specific Tax Credits can be used.

·        Demolition is nearly complete on the Shuler property.   The city has contracted with Christ’s Community to do landscape maintenance for August & September.

·        Work continues on seeking to acquire the Kroger property from the Real Estate Investment Trust which holds it.

·        The Eastern Star property is scheduled to be demolished by the end of the year.

(B) Gateway Project

·        Tom Jackson has received an appraisal of $15/sq ft for the land needed on the A&S Wholesale site.    An offer will be made soon.   Once the land is acquired, then design will resume.

(C) Façade Program

·        The Façade Review Committee met with Angie Strunc, city Architect, and drafted guidelines for how the project will proceed with applicants.

·        The Committee will meet on Aug 7 to review all applications again, and determine which ones need more information and which ones need more information.

(D) Llanfair Commons (incl CNBDU funding cycle)

·        Attendance on the Bus Tour and at all three presentation nights was required for a community to be eligible to rank the projects applying for funding.  Representatives from College Hill attended, and then participated in project ranking.

6.   College Hill Housing Team – by Phyllis Schoenberger

The Housing Team interviewed two non-profit housing developers for potential invitation into College Hill:  Cincinnati Housing Partners (CHP) and Working in Neighborhoods (WIN).   Both were well qualified.   The Housing Team selected WIN based on their holistic approach to community development, which goes beyond just the physical development.   Tom Jackson indicated that there is some gap financing available from the city.   Christ’s Community may participate by mowing grass and cutting weeds/brush.   COP will patrol the properties after they are purchased to watch for vandalism.   The team is holding back on PR at WIN’s request, in order to avoid price increases.

7.   CPOP/COP/Court Watchers – by Tom Strothers

·        The July Crime report was handed out.

·        CPOP is inviting the owners of Elisha Hall to dialog.   When they have teen parties, there are reports of drinking and gunfire.   This is having a negative effect on local businesses.

8.   Community Events & Announcements – by All

¨      Pumpkin Patch – Elaine shared that this year’s Pumpkin Patch will be at Town Hall Park on Saturday, October 7, from 10 am to 4 pm.   This event has now become too big for CHG to handle alone, and all College Hill organizations are now involved.  For example, CHBA finds craft vendors and ARCH for sets up the entertainment.  Thanks to all.

¨      Farmers Market – is held every Thursday from 3-7 pm.

¨      Rhythm Race – this is a fund raiser held annually by Forum for CHCURC.  This year’s race will be August 18 at Pleasant Hill School.   Registration is 6 pm and the race is at 7 pm.  The Kids Fun Run will be at 6:30 pm.  There will be a live band and food from local restaurants.   PNC is the title sponsor.

¨      New Business – College Hill is delighted to welcome several new businesses:  St. Teresa’s Textile Trove, which is relocating from Over-The-Rhine to 5846 Hamilton Ave. will be open August 23.  Also Royal Rooters and Howard Roberts American Family Insurance.

¨      WIN – On Aug 22, WIN will do a workshop on Predatory Lending Practices in South Cumminsville.

¨      Churchapaloosa – will be held August 26 at the United Church of Christ on Glenview Ave.  There will be free entertainment & food.

Next Summit Meeting: September 14, 2006 @ 8:00 am at College Hill Presbyterian Church.
