The minutes for the June meeting were agreed to, with no further corrections

(A)  Tom Strothers has posted minutes of Summit meetings at 66.49.227.132.

 

4.      College Hill Block Party Update – Phyllis Schoenberger
Amy Finnegan needs donations for food, beverage and desserts
Fire Department will present Smoke House for Kids
DARE will present demonstration in parking lot
Amy is looking for music performers

5.      Streetscape Update – Carol Lyon / Marty Weldishofer
Eight trees to be planted when weather is better.
Volunteers needed for watering trees
Marty is seeking bids for watering and maintenance and asking for donations to cover continuing costs for maintenance including watering and weeding.
Quotes are being asked to cover pavers of property previously overlooked in plans.

7.      Surveillance Camera Update – Jim Bodmer
All cameras up and running though not sure about church parking lot
CPD has been partially trained
Eric Frantz has been out of town – waiting on him for training schedule
Surveillance volunteer forms available at CH Rec Center. Need to be distributed to businesses.
Need people to maneuver cameras.
Surveillance training will require 2 hours.
Jim proposes to bring training class to Twin Towers and Childrens Hospital and to publicize to other communities.

8.      Summer Youth Programs for Christs Community

9.      Website – Progress  - Ken Lyon
Enewsletter is aiming for 7,000 subscribers (population of College Hill). Current enrollment is 600.
”Three Strikes” rule for submitting an article: 1) involves or related to College Hill, 2) for the good of College Hill and 3) involves people of College Hill. Sign up forms were distributed along with a cover letter from Elizabeth Sherwood.

10.  CPOP Study, Aiken High School Support – Phyllis and Joan
There will be a 40th Annual Reunion on July 30.
Incoming Freshman Orientation will be on August 15 that will feature CSI (?), Anthropology, Team Building exercises and a tour.
Uniforms will be introduced with color coordinated shirts: Blue for University, Red for Service and Black for Traditional.

Phyllis reviewed issues discussed at CPOP meeting on July 13 with Sue Radebaugh (sp?).
Eric Thomas, new principal, will begin August 1. Sue asks that community spend time at Aiken to show their support.
The three Aiken communities are working together on learning issues. This will be ongoing.

11.  Pumpkin Patch Plan – Elaine Ludwig
This is the 4th year for the Pumpkin Patch. College Hill Gardeners cannot do this alone and hope that all organizations will help.

Date for Pumpkin Patch is October 8 from 10am – 4pm

Cookbook update. Elaine distributed submission forms for “College Hill Cooks.” A meeting will be held with publisher on Friday (July 15.) It will be 4-6 months before publishing. Currently the cookbook has 100 submissions with a goal of 1000.

12.  Rhythm Race Update – Elizabeth Sherwood
Date is set for September 16th and “will be the greatest event in College Hill.” Elizabeth distributed entry forms and selected pledge forms from Beth McLean.

13.  Be a Member of CHCURC – Carol Lyon
Carol promoted new membership and distributed membership forms. She also asked that attendees distribute forms to bolster membership. Annual fees are $10.

14.  Roll Out of New College Hill Logo – Marty Weldishofer
New logo is completed and will be unveiled at “National Nite Out” on August 2nd. Balloons will be given away on August 2nd with new logo. Guidelines for use of logo has been drafted. Use of logo must be approved by CHCURC.
Q. Ken Lyon asked if organized groups could have advanced copy of logo to prepare for official release.
A. Mary Weldishofer. No – CHCURC does not have staff to work individually with groups.

15.  Community Events – Phyllis Schoenberger
National Nite Out, August 2nd will kick off College Hill Block Party that will run through Saturday, August 6, hosted by College Hill Presbyterian Church.
Venue will include:

  • Pool Party
  • National Nite Out
  • Ice Cream Social – Wednesday
  • 3-on-3 Basketball Competition with prizes organized by Nathl Moore – Thursday
  • Inspirational Music – Friday
  • Pancake Breakfast, BBQ at Pool – Saturday

     

Theme of Block Party will be “College Hill celebrates building relationships of love and joy.”

Posters are now being printed. Twin Towers and Llanfair are sponsoring food.
Next meeting is Tuesday, July 19.

16.  Announcements
Pleasant Hill Academy is hosting an ice cream social on August 18, 6-8pm.
